The purpose of the « FIGURES FUTUR » illustration contest is to give beginners a chance to propose original illustration pieces and novel interpretations of imposed works. In this competition, selection criteria favor innovation, both in the way images relate to words, and in the way illustrators express their singular, personal views. This contest also opens room for confrontation and thought exchange between artists from all continents.

2008 competition’s Theme: Anansi the Spider
Anansi the Spider is the hero of many legends and tales in western Africa. It can also be found in some english language Caribbean tales, in Curaçao, Surinam, Guiana…

Each contestant can choose to illustrate either one of the following tales:

A) Anansi and Death (Boni of Guiana tale)
B) Why spiders are always found in the corners of ceilings ? (Ashanti tale)
or :
C) Any other tale staging Anansi the Spider (a.k.a Kenndeoua, Syi…). In this case, the original text in french or english must imperatively be attached.
